This house has a very violent and tragic past.  During the mine riots of 1913 Alex McKinnon, one of the first strikers, and his family lived here.  A bomb was thrown through the front window, his daugher's room.  In attempting to throw it back out the window it exploded in his hand.  He lost a hand and an eye.  When the strike ended Alex went on to work for the mines as a valued employee who was well taken care of.
